Happy New year everyone!!!

It’s finally here 2016. I really enjoy the beginning of the year. The feeling of hope and newness almost like you can press refresh or restart on your whole life. The feeling of having a blank canvas to paint on. I just love it. I really do. Trouble is this feeling usually fades away as quickly as it comes…. The promises you make to yourself, God, your loved ones (resolutions) all dwindle by mid-February. I know that you the feeling all too well. It’s happened to me year in year out since I can remember and I want this year to be different. I want the feeling to last all the way to December. I hope you feel the same way too and want to join me in this quest.

So I’ve decided to do the following:

1.   Remain positive in adversity
I know that this is just about the easiest thing to type but hardest thing to do in real life. But it’s where we often stumble. I don’t know about you but I have a tendency to just give up or not do my best when the going gets tough. I’m not proud of it but I’m also not going to lie about it. So yep this year I will just act on it. For the first time in my life I’m actually anticipating hard situations; I’m no longer shying them away or being in denial about it because let’s face it, life is not a bed of roses and it’ll be.

2.   Stop moaning about everything
This is something I really need to change. Admittedly I don’t moan about everything but I tend to pick out the faults in a lot of things. Someone once said that it is easy for anyone to pick out the mistakes or faults in something but very few people pick out the faults and come up with solutions. So for every fault I pick out, I have to come up with a solution/ more efficient way of doing the thing that I’ve found fault in.

3.   ‘’Have fun because it’s never that serious…’’
Being uptight is just a hard way to exist… I know because I was very uptight yep I really was. I somehow thought that being serious and focused and driven required a strict regimen that didn’t allow for any ‘funny business’… I had a light bulb moment a few years ago when I met someone. Their outlook on light kind of rubbed off on me and I realized that attitude not only determines your altitude but it also determines how the ride to the top will be. So why not have a fun journey? Being focused, driven and serious do not mean that one should be uptight. That’s a big fat lie. So if you’re uptight loosen up and enjoy yourself and the journey to whichever destination you’ve chosen in life.

4.   Live every day like it counts
There’s no do overs. Once that second, minute, day has passed there’s no way to recover it. So I figure making the most of every day is going to keep that feeling of hope and newness fresh and ongoing until December.

I will check-in in December and let you know how I fared. Please share your New Year resolutions. Let’s make this the year of ‘doing’!!!
